Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology
University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

PROF. EUNICE YANG
Biography:
Eunice Yang completed her undergraduate studies at University of Hawaii (BS, 1987). She then worked with Rockwell International in Canoga Park, CA for five years in project engineering and turbomachinery departments for the Delta Rocket Engine Division. She received her masters in mechanical engineering at California State University in Long Beach (MS 1991) and then pursued graduate studies at Penn State (PhD 2006). She has been a faculty member in the Mechanical Engineering Department at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown since 2009. She also was a co-founder of a successful folding carton manufacturing and software businesses in Southern California.

Teaching:
She currently teaches various undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering (engineering measurements, materials science, statics, dynamics, and manufacturing processes). The theoretical framework for her pedagogical approach has been influenced by the works of philosopher John Dewey (theory of pragmatism), psychologist Alan Baddeley (working memory), educational psychologist John Sweller (cognitive load theory), and cognitive scientist Jill Larkin (problem solving approaches).

Research:
Her research interests include engineering measurements and sensor technologies. She is currently involved in using engineering solutions to help older adults keep physically active and healthy. She is also an advocate for using student centered pedagogical approaches, process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL), diversity and inclusion.
